Prototypes

Fused
Deposition Modeling (FDM)
Using our FDM 2000 machine by Stratasys
Inc., your prototypes are produced through a
sophisticated system involving extruded
thermoplastic in a semi-liquid state.
The FDM process forms three-dimensional
objects from CAD-generated solid or surface
models. A temperature-controlled head
extrudes thermoplastic material layer by layer.
The designed object emerges as a solid three-
dimensional part without the need for tooling.
As the plastic cools, it bonds to the previous
layers.
Complex and intricate designs pose no great
problems for this process.
In addition, these
parts are extremely accurate, generally built
within a matter of hours or days, and are quite
durable. They can be used for concept model
fit and form, finished and painted for use as a photo model, as masters
for RTV molding, or to check CAD accuracy at any point in your design activity. Recently, ProTECH has successfully used FDM
models as masters for investment cast aluminum prototypes.
